PROGRAM GOALS:
The goal of the Aransas County Emergency Medical Services Training Academy is to provide the highest quality of training in order to provide the best possible pre-hospital care to the community and surrounding areas.
Exponential growth in the area and the constant fluctuations in our community population (caused by our seasonal and recreational, residents and visitors) leads to continuing increases in demand for highly trained pre-hospital care providers. Constant changes and improvement in the care and treatment of the pre-hospital patient demands that training be of the highest standard.
Some of these changes include, but are not limited to, designated trauma centers for trauma patients, stroke designated hospitals in the near future, STEMI patients and access to Cath Labs, as well as the training of EMT-Paramedics to recognize the STEMI patient and transmit the data to the receiving facility. Aransas County Emergency Medical Services has met the STEMI standard for several years, and it is the hope of our training academy to be at the forefront in training these personnel.
Of the highest consideration for the citizens of Aransas County is the availability of health care. Aransas County is the smallest county in the state, and is located on the Gulf Coast, with the highest population area on a peninsula. The closest hospital facility is in the next county (San Patricio), and has limited facilities (i.e. NO ICU). Therefore, the majority of our patients are transported to hospital facilities located in Corpus Christi, with a minimum transport time of greater than 30 minutes. This increased transport time for our most critical patients requires that we have EMT’s and Paramedics that are trained to the highest level of competency in order to provide the optimum care to the sick and injured citizens and visitors to Aransas County.
